Why Carol The Catholic?
Evangelized by Orthodox Jews at Kosher Coop at Oberlin College and nicknamed by my Baptist friends at Cherrydale Baptist Church, hence the nickname for my blog.
Joy is the theme of carolthecatholic for “the joy of the Lord is our strength,” Nehemiah 4:10.
This blog’s goal is to write stories, to quote the Good Book about “..whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things,”
While we understand we are God’s children who encounter the discipline and scourges of the world..its malevolence, injustice, ingratitude, slander and ugliness, we fight on with humor, wit and faith and joy.
I hope to bring on the joy as to love, friendship, family, life, and death with funny and sober observations of parenting, politics, friendship, faith, family, sports, business, the natural world and the Church.
In my weakness I very much identify with the philosophically-minded but very human Elizabeth Bennet, in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, who is one of the most famous literary characters in history.
Bennet eventually views Darcy, the world and herself with humility, impartiality and justice after she goes through trials by fire and scourges of harsh correction by friends and family.
Me, too – day by day, moment to moment, in His grace.
From their friendship comes a metanoia for both characters - for the better.
True friendship is the greatest of all the virtues says Aristotle in the Nicomachean Ethics.
By the friendship of myself the writer with you my readers I hope that we undergo that day to day change of heart.
Constancy, the greatest aspect of friendship, is how I hope to act in my daily posts.
